Lesson Plans for 8th grade Math
May 21, 2012 - May 25, 2012
Pre-Algebra: The Students will state and apply definitions of various number systems, determine square root values, calculate and compare values using Scientific Notation, apply various number properties and also apply Order of Operation Rules. The students will use proportions to determine percentages and rates of either increase or decrease. The students will +, -, x, / Rational Numbers. The students will name angles and triangles. The studens will determine missing angle measurements and apply Pythagorean's Theorem. The students will calculate area, surface area and volumes of various geometric shapes.
Daily Activities: I will place personal examples and student-led examples on the dry-erase board. These examples will often be found in the textbook or personal examples derived by me. Oral and written explanations will be provided for each problem. These explanations will either be done by me or my students. The students will also place various homework problems on the dry-erase board.
Assignment for the week of 05-21-12 to 05-25-2012: Preparation for Final Exam.
Monday: Exam Prep.
Tuesday: Exam Prep.
Wednesday: Exam Prep.
Thursday: Exam.
Friday: Exam.
Algebra 1: The students will state and apply definitions of Scientific Notation and Standard Form, determine percentages of numbers and rate of increase/decrease and interpret Scatter Plots. The students will write the equation of a line that passes through a given point and has a given slope. The students will solve real-world word problems. The students will also +, -, x, / Polynomials. The students will factor trinomials.
