Circulation and Immunity

 

 

Monday

Objective(s):   Identify the parts and functions of blood. Explain why blood types are checked before a transfusion. Give examples of diseases of blood.  

State Standard:

  • Investigate the great variety of body plans and internal structures found in multicellular organisms.

 

Material Needed: Books, notes, student homework, projector, computer.

 

Class Work:

  • Bell work: List everything you know about your blood, heart, and plasma.

  • Share topics on the board.

  • Inform that their new unit is all about their bodies.

  • Pass out notes to students. Students and teacher review body parts as a class.

  • Pass out homework to students words to know

 

Homework: Words to know 

Tuesday

Objectives: Compare and contrast arties, veins, and capillaries. Explain how blood moves through the heart. Identify the functions of the pulmonary and systemic circulation systems. Describe functions of the lymphatic system.

 

State Standard:

  • Investigate the great variety of body plans and internal structures found in multicellular organisms.

 

Materials Needed: Books, notes, student homework, projector, computer.

 

Class Work:

  • Bell work: Answer questions 1-3 on page 370. Restate the prompt.

  • Review bell work.

  • Students and teacher review body parts as a class. Section 2 notes.

  • Pass out homework to students.

 

Homework: 

 

Wednesday: Kalahari Field Trip 

Thursday 

Objectives: Expose students to a blood pressure cuff. Students identify parts of the circulatory system.

State Standard:

  • Investigate the great variety of body plans and internal structures found in multicellular organisms.

 

Materials Needed:

Class Work:

  • Bell Work: page 370 #4 and page 376 1-3

  • Review bell work.

  • Pass out circulatory system diagram.

  • Instruct students that they will work on the diagram while taking turns testing out a blood pressure cuff.

 

Homework: WKST for section 2

 

Friday

Objectives: Discover the disease Sickle-Cell Anemia. Design an experiment to test the cirulation of six of your friends.

 

Grade Seven Performance Indicators: IV 2 S

 

State Standard:

  • Investigate the great variety of body plans and internal structures found in multicellular organisms.

 

Materials Needed: WKST 31 and 32. Area for students to exercise.

 

Class Work:

  • Pass out WKST 32 to students. Inform students that they will get into groups of seven.

  • Students are to complete the Activity/Lab on side 32. Record all data.

  • When students are finished, they are to complete side 31, individually.

 

Homework: Project
